Edna Mae Barnes was born into a southern migrant, working-class African American family in @VisitIndy in the early 1900's.
Martin was a community #activist & was inspired by the worsening conditions of her Martindale-Brightwood neighborhood to help local kids.
After high school, she married Early Martin & started a daycare program with 2 children in an apartment she rented with her household money.
In 1946, @EdnaMartinCtr became a home mission of the @AmericanBaptist & was named for Martin in 1974 after her death.
Today, the @EdnaMartinCtr continues to serve our community w/ social services, child care, vocation training & job placement, to name a few.
