Walker was born in 1867. She was an African American entrepreneur, philanthropist, and a political and social activist.

She was born to enslaved parents in Louisiana, the first child in her family of 6 to be born after the Emancipation Proclamation.

@VisitIndy where she founded the Madame C.J. Walker Manufacturing Company, selling beauty and hair products. -
She became one of the wealthiest African American women in the country, & one of the most successful African-American business owners ever.
