In 1940, Brokenburr made history by becoming the 1st African American elected to the Indiana State Senate. #BlackHistoryMonth
1 of the laws he authored focused on fair employment practices, improving voter registration & election participation among minorities.
He did so by establishing an impartial voter registration board & improving opportunities for African Americans serving in the @INGuardsman.
In 1955, President Eisenhower named him an Alternate Delegate to the @UN. He continued to fight for #civilrights until his death.
