I’m grateful for Dan Coats service to our country. Whether as Director of National Intelligence, Senator, Ambassador or Representative, he always put the United States first and we are safer because of it.

Dan Coats is hard to replace, but I know my good friend @RepRatcliffe will continue to serve our country well. John and I served together as United States Attorneys. John is immensely qualified for this new role and I congratulate him on his appointment.

Ratcliffe will be the first DNI without significant ambassadorial or intelligence experience. He’s been pushing the “fake dossier was Russian interference” conspiracy theory, which is not supported at all by the IC. As your constituent I find this statement most disconcerting.

You know as well as we do that there is one reason and one reason only that Donald Trump appointed Ratcliffe. It's not his experience and it's certainly not his knowledge. Trump knows Ratcliffe will think, do and say exactly what he is told. Period.

Ratcliffe is not “immensely qualified” and I’m disappointed that you call him a good friend when he is clearly not interested in serving the country but a very specific and scary ideology.
