PASSES HOUSE: I'm proud to have led the #bipartisan reauthorization of #PAHPA in the House. This bill ensures we're prepared to respond to #publichealth emergencies resulting from chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear attacks, natural disasters or infectious diseases.
In 2001 anthrax attacks infected 17+ people & ended 5 people’s lives. Since then, the threat of a chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear incident has not dissipated, but instead continues to grow. Our adversaries are continuously looking for ways to produce threats.
#PAHPA is a #bipartisan bill that ensures our #healthcare professionals are trained to respond to possible pandemic outbreaks. It prioritizes the further development of our national stockpile of vaccines, basic medical equipment like gloves, hazmat suits & masks, & diagnostics.
Importantly, #PAHPA establishes new advisory groups focused on protecting vulnerable populations such as senior citizens & people w/disabilities during #publichealth threats & emergencies. It also reauthorizes the advisory committee focusing on the specific needs of children.
I am proud #PAHPA reflects extensive feedback from the full range of medical & public health preparedness & response stakeholders in order to best examine our response as a nation to threats & to ensure we have clear procedures, resources & support in place to keep Americans safe
