We place so much emphasis & attention on our officers’ physical fitness, but we need to do more to ensure they are mentally healthy as well. I'm proud a bill I intro'd in the House, H.R. 2228, the Law Enforcement #MentalHealth & Wellness Act, was signed into law this year.
The Law Enforcement Mental Health & Wellness Act:
makes grants available to initiate peer mentoring pilot programs
develops training for #mentalhealth providers specific to law enforcement mental health needs
studies effectiveness of hotlines & annual mental health checks
Ensuring the safety of the law enforcement community across the US is critically important. This law also directs @DeptofDefense & @DeptVetAffairs to share best practices used by the military to help soldiers w/PTSD &other #mentalhealth challenges w/local law enforcement agencies

...and yet, you don't want a huge swath of Americans to have guaranteed access to mental healthcare which would save their lives. ...which makes this tweet hypocritical. Or maybe you only care about the lives of police and firefighters?
