Look for the best in people and they will see the best in you. Assume the worst about a person and you will probably get it, whether or not it was there to begin with.

OTD 1969, NASA formally announced the crew for the first lunar landing. I was one of three fortunate astronauts to have been chosen, along with crew mates Neil Armstrong and Michael Collins. This photo was taken the following day.

Remember that your future-self is depending on you to be open-minded to stuff that contradicts the things you believe now. Even better, to eagerly embrace it.

We emailed photos and were struck by the resemblance of my cousin, Herbert (d. 1996), to Tom’s family and Tom’s resemblance to my family. Six weeks later, his sister’s DNA test revealed they were full siblings. The three siblings met for the first time in March, 2019.

“Could the parents have been given the wrong child?” Tom wondered. I concluded that would be consistent his French ethnicity estimate because my aunt’s ancestry was French Canadian. I dismissed the idea of an affair and told his potential brother and sister.

On December 7, 1941, Japan attacked . At Dearborn Diagnostic Hospital, Dr. Jonikaitis delivered baby Thomas at 11:25 PM. Dr. Keyes delivered my cousin, Herbert, at 8:30 AM, December 8, 1941.

I emailed Tom to ask if he was born during WWII. “Just barely, I was born Dec 7, 1941 in Detroit.” My cousin, Herbert, was born Dec 8, 1941 in Dearborn, MI. I wondered if my uncle fathered 2 boys that year. Tom suggested they might have been born at the same hospital.

No one in our trees matched. His family had lived in TN for generations. My ninety-year-old cousin suggested the only person who might have lived in TN was my Uncle Larry during WWII Army Air Corps training. Could my uncle have had an affair?

Our ethnicity estimates are about half European Jewish. We had a common match on my Dad's (Jewish) side. When I told him our match was on probably on his Jewish side, he told me all his family was Christian.
