Here's a New Year's column, on why Canadian politics might need some healthier-life resolutions in 2019: https://www.thestar.com/opinion/star-columnists/2018/12/31/politics-is-hard-but-does-political-life-need-to-be-as-hard-as-it-is.html … Happy New Year, all. #cdnpoli

"No one said “that’s just the way life is” when the #MeToo movement started to make itself felt in Canadian political life." For a lot of staff it wasn't UNTIL #MeToo that we fully recognized the harassment for what it was/stopped seeing it as part of the job.

Great column. It also tends to attract a certain type of person. Not always people who are running for the *right* reasons. Lots of egos involved. And then they achieve their dream and realize its pretty hard, stressful, not very glam at all! Free, unlimited stress. Plus trolls.

The size of the country is a factor. Unless most Mps move their families to Ottawa, most of the stresses of political life will continue.

One Legacy of the sorrow of 2018 and lessons learned is many of us can reflect honestly before undertaking a major decision, and not be judged. Is the opportunity something I can handle, or will it cost me my soul? If so, is it worth it or can I make a difference #cdnpoli

Maybe a start would be MPs and their staffs spending much more time in their constituencies representing their constituents instead of their parties. No reason why majority of meetings and votes couldn't be done remotely.
