other than Mick La Salle, the Chronicle is generally meh. I’m trying to remember a time when it was good, and I can’t. And I say this as a life-long San Franciscan. I don’t think it’s editors are particularly interested in the concerns of city residents.

I never liked Herb Caen because he wrote derogatory things about pigeons. I’m like that with all authors and journalists. If there is a comment about animals being stupid, dirty etc., I’m out.

Yeah - I remember that BS with the pigeons - I really detest when any journo degrades any animal. Caen was obsequious and played a large role in normalizing the segregation of SF.
