So something cool happened recently. My buddy watched Streets of Fire for the first time. Now, I've seen this movie a ton. "Nowhere Fast" is, to this day, a mainstay in my editing playlist.
I have no illusions that this film is good, so hush.

Anyway, so Dave was talking about how the opening (which is fantastic, btw, easily the best part of the movie) is shot like a comic book.
I had no idea what he was talking about. Again, I've seen this intro a LOT.

And he's like, yeah, see how she's all in red while her band is in blue? And how Willem Dafoe and his gang are in silhouette? Those are comic book panels, man.
And I watched it again through that lens and holy bonk, he's totally right.

When I watched this, I was thinking about how it's an amalgam of Americana imagery, leveraging motorcycles and microphones to evoke nostalgia without being tied to a specific time. A "rock and role fable," as it were. I never noticed the details he did.

I absolutely love it when someone gives you a whole new way to look at something you're so familiar with. It's one of the joys of sharing things you love. (And, incidentally, why gatekeeping is traaaaaaash.)

Dang. I didn't even know he existed or of the Mr Loaf and Bonnie Tyler connection.
