Thank you for compiling these possible approaches. Some of them are already taking place using physics simulation as seen in:https://twitter.com/_GM_AI_/status/1009851579267190785 …

And why is that? Why are we so special? Because we are made of biomass? If an "artificial" intelligence is made it won't be much different from us, we are biological machines

Seeking universal laws governing both biological and artificial intelligence: Comparing planes and birds with universal Aerodynamics of our environment was really thought provoking... Enjoyed reading this article !!☺

FYI - For the "Seeking Universal Laws" section there is a much more direct rebuttal available. Sir George Cayley extensively studied both birds and fish to discover the principles of aerodynamics. Seehttps://www.amazon.com/Man-Who-Discovered-Flight/dp/0771029713/ …

For me a wonderful sequel of the interdisciplinary approach in the 1980s, when biologists (Maturana, Varela), biophysicists (v. Foerster) and sociologists (Luhmann) etc. looked at #AI not only from a "hardware" perspective (5th gen computer). @IoannaGogolin

The dim-bulb efficiencies may turn out to be consequential :). It is hard to be alive and intelligent in a hostile universe. Intelligence is an incidental effect of husbandry. Inference is immaterial. Meaning has no thermodynamic burden. @drfeifei

Any advice for someone going into neuroscience academia Dr. Ganguli? It’s so interdisciplinary and many advances are made with computational skills that are hard to develop alongside experimental techniques. Is trying to dive into each of these disciplines too risky to pursue?
