“If you do wear a mask [in public], it can’t be at the expense of social distancing … you still don’t need an N95 mask.” @Surgeon_General Dr. Jerome Adams weighs in on the general public wearing masks if the CDC changes its stance. https://gma.abc/3dKF6A3 pic.twitter.com/lB2G1B3OiG

Originally, @CDCgov @WHO, and my office, all recommended against the general public wearing facemasks based on the best available science at the time regarding whether or not they prevent wearers from catching coronavirus. But we are learning more about this disease every day...

Was it because of the science, though, or because you knew there wasn’t enough supply. Honesty is important, and severely lacking from this administration and their appointees.🖕

The shortage of PPE is an important part of this discussion that we can’t ignore, but the original recommendations were based on the best available science- and at the time most public health officials and scientists agreed that healthy people shouldn’t wear masks.

Based on asymptomatic spread of #covid19 we asked CDC to look at new data to determine if we should change recommendations regarding which groups should wear masks to prevent spread. But if you choose to wear a face covering, this can’t come at the expense of social distancing.

Not a criticism - 6 days ago I said DO what South Korea did “Wear masks, sick or not”. It’s SCIENCE & SENSE if you look @ South Korea’s data. We dont need to panic the public or use N95. Some barrier is better than nothing. @hodakotb @SavannahGuthrie @NBCNewspic.twitter.com/LOQlkXA7Gs

You’re lying!!! Tell the American people that healthcare workers need the N95 mask and that we had to sacrifice the General Public for the greater good! We the American people can handle the TRUTH!

You saw reality in countries that have slowed the spread of COViD-19. You can take advice from experts, but in this case you could see for yourself what China & South Korea we’re doing to mitigate the spread. They were wearing masks, testing aggressively, contact tracing, etc.
