Thread: I want to clarify 2 important #vaping misconceptions. 1) The @US_FDA proposed action on vaping is NOT a flavor ban. 2) E cigs/ vaping are NOT legally recognized as a smoking cessation aide in the US- because the vaping industry hasn’t applied for approval as such.

Vaping is a multi billion $ industry (much of that
made selling to kids). If one really believes these products help people quit, it would be best for all if that
funded US studies & applications for approval as Congress dictates, vs lobbying for continued illegal access.Show this thread -
As USSG I want to find the right balance - between the data and science on all sides, and the law. 1st we must strive to follow the law as Congress dictates. 2nd we can’t ignore proven epidemic youth use. 3rd, must make the science (in US environment) & legal cessation case.

So to vaping industry/ retailers/ advocates/ researchers- collect the data, do/ fund the studies, & make the proper legal case as the law requires. But asking
@US_FDA to not enforce/ allow continued illegal (per@FDACommissioner) access when youth are harmed isn’t reasonable.Show this thread

There is a policy to ‘clear flavored e-cigarettes from the market’ in the next few weeks. The products will go from available to unavailable because of a policy change. You can pretend otherwise, but to users it looks identical to a ban ordered by executive decree.

Oh, you mean...like JUUL...the brand that kids <3 for the buzz...the brand that is actually loved by government and PHINO agencies & NGOs... All that will be left is big tobacco companies, when you & your colleagues are done.

FDA took over 3 YEARS to finalize their PMTA guidelines for vaping products, finally came out in June. Sure, it’s technically not a “ban,” just an impossible hurdle for any vape companies to clear due to timeframe and cost. But guess who can afford it? Philip Morris.

Estimated cost: $500,000 per application, 1-2 year wait to see IF approved, Can't sell product in interim. SO FROM A SMALL BUSINESS STANDPOINT this is definitely a "de facto" ban. Only Big Tobacco/Pharma can wait out your temporary ban and you know it. Quit obfuscating the truth!
