Today, the @Surgeon_General implied that legalization increases access to cannabis among youth. This is inaccurate. Regulation of cannabis requires businesses to check for proof of age, creating a legal barrier for anyone under the age of 21.

Respectfully, relying only on a legal age barrier while ignoring
youth access otherwise hasn’t worked to limit youth use for alcohol, tobacco, and especially e-cigs- but it’s supposed to work for MJ? Education on harms - which this advisory is about- is key. #nocannabis4kids
And while I admit this is anecdote (and why communities need to do more surveillance), I’ve spoken to youth in MANY states that have legalized -just like cigarettes, most youth in those states report they are getting their cannabis from adults who obtained it legally.

Which item do teens report is easier to buy? Cannabis or Booze? What does that data look like going back 5-10-15-20 years? When you look up the answer to this question the reasons communities are voting to legalize, regulate and tax cannabis will become clearer.
