Today, the @Surgeon_General implied that legalization increases access to cannabis among youth. This is inaccurate. Regulation of cannabis requires businesses to check for proof of age, creating a legal barrier for anyone under the age of 21.

And while I admit this is anecdote (and why communities need to do more surveillance), I’ve spoken to youth in MANY states that have legalized -just like cigarettes, most youth in those states report they are getting their cannabis from adults who obtained it legally.

Like alcohol?

We fully support education to reduce teen use. Education can and should go hand-in-hand with adult-use legalization. Prohibition has completely failed to restrict youth access. This study shows reduction in frequent MJ use by teens in legalization states:https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamapediatrics/fullarticle/2737637?guestAccessKey=5e4e41eb-ec96-4641-86f9-b5c89cc7cc48 …

Don’t want to get into dueling studies as my advisory is based on many studies + expert opinion from ACOG and AAP, but important to note emerging (like 2 weeks ago) studies showing
youth harm in legalization states, likely due to
potency & access.https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamanetworkopen/fullarticle/2748051 … - 1 more reply

When I was a kid it was easier to obtain marijuana than it was cigarettes and alcohol. I imagine that has not changed in the last few decades. If we are using anecdotal evidence there is mine.

Incorrect. I work in a college freshmen dorm environment. Obtaining alcohol, finding a 21-year-old willing to buy, is a more arduous process than simply purchasing something (weed, shrooms, designers) on the black market.

Why punish medical use of cannabis users because of the actions of others? Kids need to stay away from cannabis and all other drugs unless prescribed As well as alcohol and tobacco. We make choices and they need to be taught the right ones first off. Dont blame the medicine.

ok, shall we ban alcohol, tobacco and e-cigs? my mother has smoked cigarettes for about 30 years, she's been on two different treatments and she's on the second go with patches, with no success! The government could care less about ppl's health!
