This morning I'm speaking w/ fellow #anesthesiologists on the importance of combating the #OpioidEpidemic. We cannot operate in silos. We need partnerships & collaboration. No one knows the importance of teamwork, better than anesthesiologists! @ASALifeline @aafPpic.twitter.com/WfZcbV1xF5

For me the #OpioidCrisis is personal. My baby brother, is currently serving in prison for things he did to support his addiction. I share my family’s struggle to illustrate that addiction can happen to anyone—even the brother of the SG. #NMA2019HNL

What do anesthesiologists know about addiction, fentanyl, or heroin. These are the main factors in the opioid overdose crisis, but seem to be ignored.

        1) ASA spoke up, when Oregon’s medicaid program was about to remove ALL coverage for analgesics for Chronic Pain Patients. The only reason it was halted was because of the herculean effort of patients, and experts. It almost passed.https://www.asahq.org/advocacy-and-asapac/fda-and-washington-alerts/washington-alerts/2018/12/asa-concerned-with-oregon-policy-to-restrict-opioids-for-chronic-pain-patients …

        2) 2016 Oregon back spine note 60, removed all opioid coverage for Medicaid wrongly. It will be reassessed this coming winter. This should NOT not have passed. Who will oversee it is corrected?

The “opioid epidemic” and treating pain in and after surgery are two separate issues. For some reason you see patients in agony as low hanging fruit to prune and pat yourself on the back as if it’s stopping people from overdosing on black market drugs. You’re kidding yourself
