Putting in some work in the ORs at ⁦@WRBethesda⁩ - got to help with some interesting cases and saw several people get Tylenol and other meds to help provide anesthesia and post-op pain relief with minimal opioids. They all woke up comfy and happy! 😃 ⁦@ASALifeline⁩pic.twitter.com/J5ukgkok37

Posting limited info like this is misleading and irresponsible. This suggest Tylenol is sufficient as the main source for post-op analgesia. It is not. Please try to be more responsible with your messages.

studies show 1000mg of Tylenol is equivalent to 6mg of morphine. Which is more than I’ve given quite a few patients in the OR. And I’ve definitely given patients only Tylenol and toradol (like ibuprofen) and had them wake up with minimal pain. Not for everyone but it does work!

Can you please provide the link to the study showing 1000mg of Tylenol = 6mg Morphine?

Here’s a full report from @NSCsafety that shows an even bigger effect. They reviews multiple studies and found, “that an injection of 10 mg of morphine is roughly equivalent to an oral dose of OTC ibuprofen.” https://www.nsc.org/Portals/0/Documents/RxDrugOverdoseDocuments/Evidence-Efficacy-Pain-Medications.pdf …

And here’s a study where 1000mg IV Tylenol was found equivalent to IV morphine (based on body weight, but in some cases greater than 6mg) - note, rib fractures are EXTREMELY painful!https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4608332/ …

And here’s an article w different studies comparing Tylenol to Morphine- including one where they found 1000mg equivalent to 10mg of morphine. 😮 -> Hope this helps! I found them all w 5 minutes on google. Lots of evidence for efficacy/ equivalence/ superiority of non opioids!

@JoshBloomACSH @DanLairdMD @ChadDKollas @LeahHoustonMD @JeffreyFudin @Pharmaciststeve PLEASE read what our @Surgeon_General is tweeting today. As a former ICU RN I find these tweets reckless, they will be taken as fact, misapplied, used to stigmatize CPP’s more.

The author of this NSC document is a pshyciatrist and specializes in addiction. So of course the document is going to use cherry-picked data from a decade ago with written with bias. The actual conclusion to one of his references actually states as seen in next tweet. ⬇️

CONCLUSION: There is evidence of short-term efficacy (moderate for pain and small for function) of opioids to treat CLBP compared with placebo. The effectiveness and safety of long-term opioid therapy for treatment of CLBP remains unproven. Found in ref: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/24480962/ …

@JoshBloomACSH @ChadDKollas @DanLairdMD is this a parity acct of the @Surgeon_General this is reckless of our @Surgeon_General to tweet stuff like this. Think about the jaded Drs and RNs who reads this stuff. 10mg of morphine is NOT equal to an OTC ibuprofen 😡

Hi. I like my internal organs. Specifically my liver. Thanks. Why is the lowest of the low quality data accepted as "proof" against opioids but when anything for them is rational and even dots the I's and crosses the T's everyone screams big pharma?

Where are the longevity studies that prove we are not creating people who will need liver transplants in a few years? Long term efficacy and safety has been proven with opioids.
