Putting in some work in the ORs at ⁦@WRBethesda⁩ - got to help with some interesting cases and saw several people get Tylenol and other meds to help provide anesthesia and post-op pain relief with minimal opioids. They all woke up comfy and happy! 😃 ⁦@ASALifeline⁩pic.twitter.com/J5ukgkok37

Posting limited info like this is misleading and irresponsible. This suggest Tylenol is sufficient as the main source for post-op analgesia. It is not. Please try to be more responsible with your messages.

studies show 1000mg of Tylenol is equivalent to 6mg of morphine. Which is more than I’ve given quite a few patients in the OR. And I’ve definitely given patients only Tylenol and toradol (like ibuprofen) and had them wake up with minimal pain. Not for everyone but it does work!

Can you please provide the link to the study showing 1000mg of Tylenol = 6mg Morphine?

Here’s a full report from @NSCsafety that shows an even bigger effect. They reviews multiple studies and found, “that an injection of 10 mg of morphine is roughly equivalent to an oral dose of OTC ibuprofen.” https://www.nsc.org/Portals/0/Documents/RxDrugOverdoseDocuments/Evidence-Efficacy-Pain-Medications.pdf …

I'm not sure that many people have been able to access IV Tylenol yet, but as a scheduled postop med, it can be great. IV Toradol is also good. If those are not adequate, then adding something else seems logical, but I am fine with starting with the IV non-narcotics (not oral).

My dad was given one dose of IV Tylenol post op and the hospital charged over $500. It was useless and a huge waste of money. He was a stage IV pancreatic cancer patient on Medicare.

Out of curiosity, what would've happened if one of these patients had undiagnosed liver disease, cirrhosis? Also, had the nerve block or anesthesia completely worn off before they were pumped full of tylenol??

Nothing. Paracetamol is used on liver units and transplant units. It's dangerous in overdose. Not single doses.

It seems like you are further demonising pain medications for no other reason than to justify not giving pain medication.
