Unless you’re wondering about someone’s “sexual preference” ie the method by which someone chooses to engage in sexual pleasure, please use “sexual orientation.” The @NIH and @AmerMedicalAssn manage to use this language, I’m sure Dr. @JeromeAdamsMD can manage as well. #Pride2019https://twitter.com/Surgeon_General/status/1145457766561144832 …

Also, though I’m not opposed to a little snark myself, the latter part of your educating response might have discouraged other well meaning folks from continuing to engage on the topic in the future- thus defeating the purpose. Twitter can be tough, and kindness usually wins!

My apologies if my unintended snark was discouraging. However your tweet and response are incorrect and perpetuate language thst is harmful and needs to be abandoned. See

Thanks for doing the hard work of continued engagement and improvements! There’s such a long, painful and ongoing history of language being used to hurt
#LGBTQ+ people, incl. in healthcare- as you say, being careful about the terminology really matters !Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
