2/? “Unfortunately, some policies and practices purportedly derived from the guideline have in fact been inconsistent with, and often go beyond, its recommendations.”

3/? A consensus panel highlighted these inconsistencies including inflexible application of recommended dosage/duration thresholds & policies encouraging hard limits & abrupt tapering of drug dosages, causing sudden opioid discontinuation or dismissal of patients from a practice.

3/? The panel also noted the potential for misapplication of the recommendations to populations outside the scope of the guideline, eg sickle cell crises, advanced cancer, & perioperative setting.

4/? Opioids are STILL being overprescribed and inappropriately prescribed to too many patients, and the
@CDCgov guidelines are an important way to address this. BUT... we MUST NOT hurt some patients in the process by inappropriately applying the guidelines.Show this thread -
5/ Again, providers/ prescribers/ policy makers, PLEASE read the above article. We must
inappropriate prescribing, but we CAN do this without hurting patients the guidelines were NEVER meant to apply to!

A press conference reiterating this, by your office, CDC, FDA & HHS would help matters. States created their own guidelines. Drs are scared to treat people w medical necessity for
#OpioidMedication. If states took action, Drs would follow. Until then, it will only get worse. -
Far too many
#suicides in pain community, including drastic increase within#Veterans.#palliativecare#incurable#RareDiseases#cancer#intractablepain ALL being force tapered, some even exempt from guidelines. It's horrific for millions of Americans. We need immediate action. - 3 more replies

You SHOULD be getting inquiries. US Govt must enact AMA Resolution 235 as mandated policy for all healthcare and law enforcement Agencies. No physician should fear sanctions for prescribing whatever a patient needs to control pain -- including opioids. CDC guidelines must go!

You are one of the only non CPP advocates that I hear say this loud and clear Red. I concur. The PDMP must be made a PHYSICIANS EYES ONLY system & include ALL RXs as well, if it's not decided to be abandoned altogether.

Until CDC guidelines are repealed, states will continue making laws, Medical boards/DEA/AGs will continue to harass/prosecute. Good docs' lives have been ruined. It's happening. Risk is too great to treat patients. MUST REPEAL CDC GdLs. PDMP for docs only. MUST STOP DEA/AG

Here's a recent example of CDC G/Ls applied as law to prosecute a Michigan doctor treating palliative care patients: https://amp.detroitnews.com/amp/1284722001?__twitter_impression=true … CC:
