1/5 For this week’s #SundaySpotlight on #PublicHealth science, I’d like to highlight a commentary in #PublicHealthReports challenging our traditional views on worksite wellness & calling for a more comprehensive approach. https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/0033354919845683 …pic.twitter.com/OhE6VFefwb

2/5 Worker wellness is vital to improving our Nation’s health and economic prosperity, but traditional worksite wellness programs may not be as effective as we hoped in improving employee health, productivity and business metrics. #CHEP

3/5 Traditional worksite wellness interventions have, for the most part, focused on individual employees and on providing information/offering worksite health programs with the hope that change will occur.

4/5 To make a lasting impact on employee health, we must change our mindset around worker wellness programs. Instead of focusing on the individual, we must target the entire work environment - through tobacco-free policies, healthy food options, reducing sitting at desk, etc.

5/5 In conclusion, worker wellness should target “3-4-80” — 3 unhealthy behaviors (inactivity, unhealthy eating, tobacco), which are risks for 4 chronic conditions (heart disease, type 2 diabetes, lung disease, cancer), which account for 80% of premature deaths in US.

There happens to be a product that is non tobacco doesn’t cause cancer or lung disease. Doesn’t produce smoke so there is no second hand smoke to worry about! Improves the health of the user and doesn’t effect individuals around the user! Does vaping or an e-cigarette ring a bell

A product that is promoted by the Royal College of Physicians as to be 95% safer than smoking and promoted in the UK to get their public health to a substantially better health. New Zealand also promotes it in their public health! Here in the US not so much!
