2/5: All cigarettes are deadly but menthol ones are particularly insidious because menthol flavor masks the harshness of smoke, making it easier to tolerate, esp. for new smokers. This has been shown to increase smoking initiation/progression and make quitting harder.
3/5: #DYK: menthol cigarettes are used disproportionately by adolescents, women, LGBT populations, and racial/ethnic minorities, particularly African Americans? Simply put, menthol plays a major role in many smoking related disparities.
