@Surgeon_General Although melanoma is less common among African–Americans it is associated with a worse prognosis than in White-Americans. Beyond screening, what should be done to address the disparity in Black dermatologists and barriers to entering this medical specialty? -
Exposing students to dermatology as a speciality earlier in training is important, as well as increasing mentorships from the 3% of derms who are Af-Amer. The AAD diversity task force also started a diversity mentorship program, but we are a long way from where we need to be!
