Matt Curtis Retweeted U.S. Surgeon General

The #naloxone access movement, created and led by people who use drugs and other harm reductionists, never stopped caring for people at the point of medication being administered. I get the (good) point that @Surgeon_General makes but don’t appreciate the casual disrespect.https://twitter.com/Surgeon_General/status/1085253400072204288 …

The approach to treating overdose patients no longer ends with saving them with naloxone... St. Elizabeth added a program of linking overdose patients at its ERs with peer recovery specialists, who help guide them into treatment. #recoveryispossible https://bit.ly/2FnhbbS

Matt, no disrespect intended! The statement in tweet was a quote from the article, speaking about a change in perspective and approach at that specific institution. The country owes thanks to all who are committed to #naloxone, harm reduction, and warm handoffs to care!

Fair enough, thanks for the response, and I'll grant that the exact tone of my earlier tweet may have been pre-coffee this morning, so I apologize for making it seem harsher than intended.

While we're here, please keep fighting for harm reduction! There are some great things happening as a result of federal opioid $$, but very, very little of it is reaching community-based harm reduction orgs, which are a natural platform for so much we all want to accomplish.
