Opioid Addiction only can happen to the less than 5% of the population that are predisposed to it. Problem is don’t know if you are one of those. Alcoholism is similar but who considers restricting alcohol sales to prevent alcoholism? Failed during Prohibition. More harm

Perhaps we should direct a lot more effort to IDing who those 5% are, then working on alternatives for pain for them when needed & also offering supervised opioid therapy (inpatient) when opioids are the only choice, rather than forcing the other 95% to deal with untreated pain.
