We are honored to report that ASAS-SN project has been awarded the 2020 Beatrice M. Tinsley Prize! While awarded by name to Chris Kochanek and Kris Stanek (both ), ASAS-SN is very much a collaborative effort!

I was today years old when I learned that the word "disaster" came from astrology: dis-aster - "an unfavorable aspect of a planet or star" (from "Komarr" by Lois McMaster Bujold - that is one of the reasons I still read a lot of SF; I don't think she is on Twitter)

    So I became curious, and started listing various telescopes/facilities ASAS-SN used in our papers: On the ground (professional): 1) ASAS-SN (duh :) 2) network 3) - both Magellans and duPont 4) 2x8.4-m 5) MDM 2.4-m and 1.3-m 6) 2-m ...

This, together with new data, will enable some amazing stellar astronomy.

Over the next ~5 years various projects, including , will take spectra of several million bright stars, and all astronomers will be able to get a ~10 years ASAS-SN light curve for every single one of them, with many thousands of epochs!

Hi , now that you are running energy, why don't we see a lot of solar energy panels on OSU campus roofs? And while you are at it, you should install automatic lights-off timers in these giant lecture halls.

Fresh ASAS-SN discovery, likely supernova ASASSN-20bs: Rapid rise, so most likely a core-collapse supernova (-like). Nice archival image of the host galaxy. At g~17 mag, this is roughly ~1 million times fainter than .

That is a great photo to imagine how bright a supernova would actually be - just picture a second Moon right there!

I saw Betelgeuse last night (peeking in on the corner of an image of a beautiful lunar halo). (no supernova)

We declare the challenge over - it was not a disaster :) In fact, we should all stop looking at it starting NOW, which will almost certainly assure that it will go supernova.

For many years astronomers have struggled to explain why spiral galaxies look so different. Now we now: it is different species of ultra-aliens competing in the "Best Looking Galaxy" contest.

What do you think is the best acronym EVER in astronomy? We are quite partial to ASAS-SN, but we probably slightly biased :)

Sebastian Otero (AAVSO staffer) used NASA's TESS data to determine that Theta Carinae is the brightest heartbeat star known thus far. It's the central star of the southern open cluster IC 2602, visible with the naked eye at V= 2.74. Below: tet Car light curve of NASA'S TESS data

challenge continues! Have you seen the faint yet with your own eyes? If not, go out there and see it, or even take a picture - once it starts getting brighter (when? who knows!), it will be fun to compare!

If I have missed somebody, please yell at me below, it was not malicious. What is my point? Doing astrophysics these days can be quite complex, but also a lot of fun!
