Profit-driven utility companies shutoff power to families over 5.7 million times since 2020! This is disgusting. Congress must pass my Heating and Cooling Relief Act and Emergency Price Stabilization Act to lower utility costs and stop shutoffs.

The NCUC has allowed Duke Energy to enact a dictatorship over power in #NC. But the fight is most certainly not over. Just this year, the #NCUC will be holding public hearings for the upcoming rate hikes and for proposed updates to the #CarbonPlan (CPIRP). We'll be watching.

The passage of #HB951 in May 2021 set NC on a path to net zero emissions by 2050🚨 However, on Dec 30, NCUC rubber-stamped Duke Energy’s dirty carbon plan🔥 The plan completely fails to meet NC’s emission reduction goals🧵 fossilfreenc.org/ncuc-report-ca #FossilFreeNC #PeoplePowerNC

The money Duke saves by switching to renewables could be reinvested in up to 8.6 gigawatts of 4-hour battery storage in North Carolina, according to the analysis, nearly as big as the state’s entire coal fleet.

Duke Energy’s North Carolina coal plants are expensive to run. Replacing them with solar would cost half as much — and leave the utility with money to help struggling coal communities, @EnergyInnovLLC says. energynews.us/2023/01/30/rep

"The Commissioners should have created an equitable approach based on the expertise of scientists & authentic input from impacted communities. Instead, they enabled Duke Energy, the monopoly they are supposed to regulate, to write itself a blank check and call it a Carbon Plan."

Shoutout to our partners at @NCClim8Justice for calling out the North Carolina Utilities Commission for rubber stamping @DukeEnergy's Carbon Plan. We will never get a just outcome from an unjust process. charlotteobserver.com/opinion/articl

This is WILD! A utility monopoly that is making crazy profits + continues to invest in fracking + not upgrade transmission infra + against rooftop solar (re:carbon plan) can call for a rate hike in the name of “improving the reliability & transition to clean energy” #ncpol

NC Ratepayers 📢 Duke Energy is making a case that Fossil Fuels are: -unreliable (remember rolling blackouts?) -expensive -dirty We can build a clean, reliable & affordable grid by investing in renewables. People > Profits, it’s that simple y’all✊🏼 journalnow.com/news/local/duk
