There's smth I've been meaning to talk about on twitter for quite some time, but we've been not in the best shape lately, so I've been putting it away for... a week now? wow
Anyway, first, a bit of story

"Social network of the future", "killer of Twitter", "effective anti-abuse tools", open source, decentralized (anyone can setup a server of it), federated (all servers can connect to each other and other servers that use compatible protocols), all that stuff
It is good in some ways, but the thing is, it's quite hostile for many people, esp. marginalized folks, and it has only one main dev who has a bad pattern of not listening to people talking about big problems, which has recently lead to a big discourse (big in terms of mastodon):
As usual, he added a feature, many people said it was unsafe and can be prone to abuse, and instead of trying to listen he dismissed the issue and basically told them "if you don't like it, you should create a fork and do it yourself" Basically, he told them to fork(fuck) off
This has lead to a "ForkOff" discourse, where were people who wanted to "ForkOffTogether", who wanted to have a better social network and were ready to help with making it reality
And so, after some preparations, there's now gonna be the first meeting, on which people will bootstrap the organization that is going to do all further work on forking and coding the software, getting feedback from community, etc
This is a chance for people to help with creating a social network that is better than twitter or mastodon, that is open for more kinds of people and where all feedback is welcome and will be heard The meeting is open for everyone, and everyone's input is welcome
The meeting is gonna be on 30th June, 21:00 CEST All info on the meeting itself and the work that has already been done can be found here https://docs.google.com/document/d/1YL8iphlc5OU5RosoU4p5LCcE9m8smc20UmCZxpCPPJM/edit?usp=sharing … It is also going to contain an invite link to Discord server where the meeting is gonna be held
It doesn't mean that this is the only chance for you to be heard, but this is the first step, which sets the base for how it is going to work in the future, and how decisions are gonna be made
And I hope that at least some people will also be interested in this project and would want to join in the discussion now or in the future
