Consider: millions of years ago our antecedents gave a massive sacrifice of their left hemisphere. We lost a tremendous amount of short term memory and replaced it with Broca’s, Wernicke & the phonological loop. But why? So we can—talk. Thus chimpanzees can do this—we can’t:

Brains are amazing. Our lab demonstrates that single human layer 2/3 neurons can compute the XOR operation. Never seen before in any neuron in any other species. Out now in . Congrats Albert, Tim  & CO

Sometimes, science feels mundane. Then someone points out how ridiculous phrases like "the parallel beamformers," and "titanium phantom heating" sound in regular conversation. Side note: these would make great band names.

I just 1) had an idea for a device while at home, 2) ssh'd into my PC & quickly designed it, and 3) beamed the designs to a 3D printer on the other side of campus. I'll pick it up in the AM. This is normal. Remember, we already live in the future.

A few years old, but still fascinating writing from in : "The Neurologist Who Hacked His Brain—And Almost Lost His Mind" Someone recently asked me about this story. I said I'd forward it but forgot who asked. Posting here as an attempt.

Seems the frequency of brain computer interface articles is still increasing. This one from the is a great introduction and accurately reflects the state of the field.
