Twenty-two women were arrested, including Josephine who refused to give the court her real name and pay the $5 fine. This group was then taken to the Charles Street Jail to fulfill their eight day jail sentence. [2]

At a ceremony later held in Boston, Josephine and the others who had been arrested and jailed in Boston were awarded an Alice Paul designed jail-door pin. Only five of the original pins are known to have survived. [3]
