It's always sad (as funny as it is) when certain net vernacular or imagery (Chad/Stacy/roastie etc. most recently) enters the public consciousness via the news.

Clueless boomers are taught (by other equally clueless or dishonest folk) that use of certain words is proof of belonging to some shady group. We don't do this with most language, but when new words are learnt, they're tied in people's minds to the context of their discovery.

The media in general are willfully ignorant of cross pollination among net subcultures, as if it's somehow not a defining feature of the age we live in.
