I'm writing a book on fraud/bias/error/hype in science. There are ENDLESS things to discuss, but do you have a story that nobody knows yet? Or a tip on a dodgy/overhyped study, from any field? Tweet me, or send to [mytwittername]1@gmail.com! Thanks, pals!

To the Spiegel writer who just got busted for gross journalistic malpractice (): Johann Hari had a best-selling book this year with endorsements from, among others, Hillary Clinton! You probably have a bright future!

Amazing. Train a network to classify papers (accept/reject). Then run the network on the paper describing the network, and it classifies the paper as a strong reject. This is why we can't have nice paper classifiers. (h/t )

So true, Jeet. It's not as if he's written an entire essay criticising Harvard's unmeritocratic admission policies. Oh wait... 🤷🏻‍♀️

Finally read this (about Theranos) and it’s brilliant. Astonishing case of how far you can get with lies, bullshit, and hype as long as you target the right influential people.

Just re-reading this 2014 survey of economists, where 1.88% admitted to "Accept[ing] or offer[ing] sex in exchange for (co-)authorship, access to data or promotion". Oh dear.

I don’t approve of this (science + any politics = bad, and we shouldn’t encourage people to do this kind of thing), but alas, it IS funny...

I'm calling for a total and complete shutdown on academics starting their paper/book titles with "Towards a..." or "On the..." until we can figure out what the hell is going on.

This is one of the cringiest, least funny pieces of “satire” I’ve ever read, and the whole thing is made more bizarre given it’s been retweeted by several people who previously appeared to have an actual sense of humour...

Dec 20 I will summarize findings from 18 replications we conducted this semester. We wanted prediction markets, but were overwhelmed by work just running the replications. Instead, a Twitter vote, you're welcome to rate replicability. Below are studies we attempted to replicate.
