Beautiful, evocative and moving: This is the earliest known original colour film of London, taken in 1924 - only 5 years after Armistice.pic.twitter.com/En0GGNKNZL

The Crimean War was fought between 1853 to 1856 and is probably best remembered for Balaclava, the Charge of the Light Brigade & Florence Nightingale. The early photographs of its British soldiers are quite stunning! I wonder how many of you have ancestors who fought in the war?pic.twitter.com/98Cp5C3UnD

When it comes to the juxtaposition of the magnificent amongst the squalid, this photo has it all - what an utterly amazing view from the slum gardens of Millwall - the 3-masted barque 'S.V. Penang' in dry dock at the Isle of Dogs in 1932pic.twitter.com/3d5HJ8U1Hb

Some stunning photographs of the impoverished children of Spitalfields, taken by Horace Warner. Such character and such fortitude. I don't know whether to

This stunningly detailed photograph was taken on Saturday 11th September 1869 and shows the construction of the Holborn Viaduct. So much magic to zoom into and see in this picture. I particularly love the advertisements.

You'll get the chance to own a little bit of BabelColour magic this May, as the Royal Mail are using my colourisation work on their presentation coin packs to commemorate 75 years since the end of the Second World War. More info nearer the time x

Warning: This video is graphic and harrowing. Taken from the ITV series 'The World At War In Colour' it contains colour footage filmed at the liberation of Dachau & Buchenwald Camps. I share it on International Holocaust Remembrance Day, lest we ever forget

1857: This is the building of Isambard Kingdom Brunel's 'Great Eastern' steamship at Napier Yard in West Ferry Road, Millwall. It was by far the largest ship ever built, with the capacity to carry 4,000 passengers from England to Australia without refuelling!pic.twitter.com/tx8rnMCjLD

Travel back in time with me 166 years, to the London of 1854, when top hats were high fashion and this stunning photograph of Buckingham Palace was taken

Would you like to travel in time? The fascinating house of the Straw brothers, along Blyth Grove in Worksop, Nottinghamshire, was left to the National Trust in 1990 & opened to the public in '93. It's an amazing time capsule which has remained totally untouched since the 1930s

If you ever pondered how the expression "It's like Piccadilly Circus" arose, this eye-popping photo from 1910 may enlighten you. Horse-drawn carriages dodging random road works, heedless pedestrians and new-fangled automobiles! The Highway Code was introduced 21 years later...

I've brought together some of the most gorgeous colour photographs of London celebrating the end of the Great War; all taken in July 1919 by Fernand Cuville. They're not colourised, they're original colour autochromes of Buckingham Palace, New Bond St, Regent St & Regent Place

No other photo captures the massive post war changes to London than this shot. The architect's vision was one of hope, but for me it has a genuine sense of melancholia, of the Old Ways passing. It's the Stifford Estate in Stepney Green, taken in 1961 by David Ganickpic.twitter.com/yLs6BXNXPX

Original colour photography of London before the Great War is incredibly rare. The colour autochrome process had only been patented in France in 1907 and the technology was very young & new. So this colour shot by Auguste Léon of Tower Bridge 107 years ago is an amazing find.
