The ability to believe two contradictory things at the same time as if they are both perfectly complimentary. Also the ability to boldly believe insane things as if they are totally real. Humans are masters at self delusion.

This sounds legit. Humans are predictably irrational. I think this has been evident throughout history as well, and has manifested itself in superstitious behavior.
