3. He had come to this strange conclusion when he was 13, and had stumbled in on his mother and father going at it furiously, his dad all tied up. Arthur's mother and father had explained to him what they were doing, and the importance of the safeword.

4. In that moment, Arthur understood society. All of the pain and misery and cruelty and domination, it was all just a game like his mother and father played. It had to be. If people weren't enjoying themselves, then why didn't they stop? It had to be.

5. Whenever Arthur failed a test, or a job interview, he just smiled. When someone was rude to him (which was often) he laughed it off. When he was ignored, he ignored it. Whenever his life went wrong (which was often) Arthur knew that it was okay.
