Brie, you are not denying parents DO throw their trans kids to the streets are you? That they cut financial support for their children to attend college? The 4 women on the panel do not rep ALL parents of Transgender children. cc: @tfitzsimons

Str8Grandmother, Gender Dsyphoria is a mental health issue. There are dif types of GD. People live as trans for their mental health. For some, works great, for some it's great for a while, for others it's worse, much worse. Affirmation model has iatrogenic risks-can make it worse

iatrogenic /ʌɪˌatrə(ʊ)ˈdʒɛnɪk/ adjective adjective: iatrogenic relating to illness caused by medical examination or treatment. That is the "art" of medicine my friend. ALL should be denied Affirmation cuz SOME would be harmed? Especially when "some" is so minuscule in numbers?

Not all should be denied. Rather, not all should only be affirmed. Where's the distinction in treatment? Affirmation is not neutral. How can you know what % of GD children continue as trans as a self-fulfilling prophecy? What if dif treatment meant they didn't need lifelong T?

That is where "art" in the "art of medicine," comes in. We have to listen to the other side as well, the transgender ppl who tell us, "I WISH I could have gotten puberty blockers when I was young." Their voice matters, their opinion matters. Medicine is an art.

As for "minuscule numbers," how can you say with confidence it's minuscule? They aren't even tracked. Absence of data doesn't equal absence of existence. Many who desist don't want to be tracked. Do gender clinics track desisters? Why not?Wouldn't it help prevent false positives?

Most desisters/detransitioners never set foot again in a gender clinic. No one is tracking them.

          1. I don’t mean to be argumentative, but there’s a flaw in your premise that only a few will be harmed. ALL choices have consequences - this applies to hormone treatment as well. All hormone treatments cause side effects - strokes, clots, heart attacks.

          2. In coming years, the health effects of the “informed consent “ model of trans hormone treatment will surface. And those effects won’t care if you were a gung-ho transition-er, or if you were ambivalent. Your biology, however, will matter a lot.

          3. Your biology will matter because there are some people who are genetically more sensitive to the effects of hormone treatment - in my personal experience, gender clinics do not screen for such anomalies. This is a huge - and dangerous - mistake.

          4. You know those ads you see for class action lawsuit lawyers looking for mesothelioma patients? It’s gonna look like that. Clots, strokes, heart attacks - oh, but the gender clinics will be protected, b/c your kid sign an informed consent form.

          5. When these effects surface, it won’t matter if you regretted, or not. It won’t matter. Only your biology and genetics will matter - which, given the trans movement’s theory of biology, seems tragically ironic.
