    A witness said both men were transported to hospitals, where their conditions remain unclear. Howe answered his phone while in an ambulance, so he is at least alert. The float was carrying other GOP candidates and local party activists.

    The accident happened after the Steamboat Days parade when a tractor pulling a flatbed float lost control and hit a curb, according to one person on the float. Howe sustained scrapes and other injuries; an aide appeared more seriously hurt after getting caught beneath float.
