AP EXCLUSIVE: In a letter, Gen. Milley confirmed some soldiers mobilized to DC last month were issued bayonets. Defense documents also show some were not trained in riot response.

Soldiers assigned to @82ndABNDiv and @USArmyOldGuard were told bayonets were to remain in scabbards and not to be attached to their service rifles. No weapons were to enter the capital w/out clear orders and only after nonlethal options were reviewed, according to Milley's letter
Important to note infantryman aren't typically trained in riot control. The 82nd paratroopers deployed were only given brief civil unrest training by a military police unit *after* they arrived in DC.
