    There is also the doors in the Basilica of St. John Lateran which were originally the doors of the Senate House in the Roman Forum. They date from the 3rd Century. Rome has some wonderful ancient survivals scattered around.

    The oldest door is still in use in Rome. Cast in bronze for emperor Hadrian' rebuilding, they date from about 115 AD. Each door is solid bronze seven and a half feet wide & twenty-five feet high, yet so well balanced they can be pushed or pulled open easily by one person.
