I don't quite get how folks my age (at a minimum; I'm a transitional Boomer/GenXer) can have forgotten their youth so completely, as they to all appearances have.

Exactly. They have probably regularly made disparaging remarks about younger generations. I went to
@ASU In my 40s. I met so many kind, creative, smart young people there. It was awesome to be around them. I’m retiring and might go back to achieve my MFA dream.
