When a white guy like this says, "I don't see color," what he's actually saying is "I refuse to acknowledge centuries of inequality, oppression, and injustice. And I refuse to admit my own privilege." This isn't a virtue, it's cowardice.https://twitter.com/JoeMyGod/status/1095697527049904130 …

"I don't see color" is an expression of race-based privilege. Howard Schultz has the privilege of not seeing color because he's a wealthy powerful straight white man. A poor black teen confronting the police at night on the streets of America has no such luxury. Q.E.D. 2/2

The use of the word, "honestly" is a tell; it means he does see color because, well, he has eyes and a brain with dispositions and biases. White people say they "don't see color" because they actually do and don't want to admit it. This is the easiest rhetorical way to skate.pic.twitter.com/9ntfKrfGAX

When a guy like this says he doesn't see color it is usually total bs.

Yes! Tamir Rice: "I don't see color." Michael Brown: "I don't see color." LOL--absolute luxury indeed. But let us not forget the immortal words of MLK: "I don't see color."

Schultz is also in a unique position, considering the fact that he spent his childhood in a housing project with an abusive father. He did not experience privilege in the way that many of his contemporaries did.

That doesn’t erase his whiteness... I grew up in a lower class Mexican family, I never got harassed by cops, or even school officials like my cousins did. I’ve never been the butt of racial jokes like my stepfather, or gotten pulled over for no reason.

I hate that phrase.. and in my personal experience it’s usually followed up with “white privilege doesn’t exist”.. that shit makes my blood boil.
