Here is why some Googlers dislike SEO metrics and why some even cringe when they hear them mentioned seroundtable.com/why-google-doe

doesn't spend $1mil+ on a 30sec Super Bowl spot hoping you'll get up in the middle of the game and go buy some shoes. There is massive value in Brand Impressions - however you go about getting them. The trick in SEO is measuring that value.

This is true even for organic results. Forget "who" is ranking - it's "what" is ranking in terms of products, info, reviews, local, national, etc. The "nature" of the SERPs at all points paints a much different picture than competitor or rank analysis.

At SEJ we have a *no advertising* WordPress post template that we use from time to time, w/ commenting.
Unfortunately, this was one of those times:

In Google's Quality Raters Guidelines when talking about E-A-T, the word Authority only appears one time (in an example of how NOT to do it). The word they use is "Authoritativeness" - not authority. There's a difference and, IMO, it's an important one.

This is a good philosophy to live by. Good SEO is describing reality in a way that fulfills the needs and desires of the user in a way that a computer can also make sense of it.
While not always perfect - Google WANTS to surface good content for humans created by good humans.

Good SEO is doing what good humans would do. If you're citing a source because that source was important in helping you create content, link to them because that's fair, deserved credit. And link to them without nofollow because that's also, in such a case, fair, deserved credit.

It seems Google made some changes to their schema best practices in the Article -> Author section. developers.google.com/search/docs/ad
Though it's always been valid markup, I like that Google acknowledges that an "Organization" can be credited as the author of content and not just a person.

I’ve just found thehistoryoftheweb.com
I’d never heard of it. But it’s awesome. As someone who was there for everything since about 1994, it reminded me about SO many things.
Nostalgia. Love it.
This is a good introspective look at 's link strategy evolution. I always love the try, test, measure, evaluate approach. It not only shows what they did - but how they approached testing so that you can do something similar with your own strategies. Thx .

We’ve stopped (most) manual outreach after sending over 1,000,000 emails.
After evaluating years of client results, we believe links are best generated passively for 90%+ of the website situations that exist.

In #SemanticSEO - Entities are ANY "thing" - whether Google is aware of them or not. Our job as an optimizer is to do 1 or more of 3 things:
1) Establish the Entity
2) Influence the Entity by connecting to it
3) Expand the Entity by adding attributes and features

I'm pretty sure this #Google core update is targeting only sites accessible through a web browser. Construction Sites, Tourist Sites, and Alien Abduction Sites are so far unaffected.
It's a little too soon to tell for sure, though.

Disambiguation is a key concept to understand in modern #SEO. Here's a good article on how Google might handle it from its end, but it's our job to help eliminate any shadow of a doubt as to exactly what we're talking about.
I'm becoming a big fan of lately.

#SEO's - What do you find are the pain points when a client wants to expand their site into other languages?
Costs (of translation and/or implementation)?
Quality+intent of the translations?
Knowing how many languages to do?
Localisation?
Anything else?
RT's appreciated for reach

What SEO information is sorely missing or hard to come by when you're trying to learn that aspect?
It's tough to fight myths because any rebuttal may be just as wrong, but I'd like to know where the knowledge gap lies to see where I might help close it.

I never cease to be amazed at how many self proclaimed #SEO Experts really have no idea how to search for something beyond finding their client's site somewhere on page 26.

Whether or not it becomes a CWV - this INP or "Interaction to Next Paint" score is one to watch for UX studies regardless. Long "Add-To-Cart" times or "Show More Post" loads (among others) have a real impact on customer journeys.

Happy #ThingsNotStrings Day!

Have fun hitting those triples, everyone!

Whelp... that wasn't unexpected, was it?
Generally, for #SEO, Wikipedia isn't great (or necessarily highly trusted) for validation of facts and information in Google's eyes. Google's love for Wikipedia comes from the IA, taxonomies, and connected nodes of information - not the information itself.

Are you building great web sites and optimizing them to rank? Or are you creating pages to rank and trying to turn them into a great web site?

As someone who did SEO when there were no tools I would say that my troubleshooting abilities are better as a result. IMO, beginners don't benefit from any exposure to tools that don't provide actionable data like for link building. Only tool beginner should be exposed to is GSC
The core team I work with is 5 people, of which I am the only male. I am proud to say that I work with one of the best teams for small to mid-sized businesses I've EVER worked with and very little of that is due to my own presence or contributions. I strongly support #womeninseo!

A perk of virtual SEO events is that no one is there to slide his hand across your back, or leg, or proposition you in an elevator.
It might be a handful of men out of hundreds, but still enough to never miss not attending.

The best keywords for #SEO don't always represent or relate to your product or service. They often represent the problem or situation your products or services help to solve.

In #SEO and #Marketing - the 1st step isn't to decide what to say and what keywords to use to say it. The 1st step is to identify and understand who you are going to need to see these things to.

Knowledge in the Google Knowledge graph means the relationships between entities and entity classes. Confidence in those relationships is measured in association scores between them.
