The greatest achievement any leader can have is the ability to step away and have one of their mentees take their place. Took me WAY too long to experience this in a workplace. I'm incredibly lucky for what I learned there.
I can't believe I even need to say this, but don't become a lead if you don't have the desire or ability to raise your team higher than yourself

I’ve read so many horrible things on Blind from managers and leads, especially since the industry starting leaning into D&I. Some people aren’t meant to lead.

Problem is many places still don't offer any more advancement aside from Senior (Principle, Staff, II, etc.) So Lead is the only place to go from there.

That's an issue at the studio level, definitely, but a team shouldn't be punished with a bad lead because of it

So true! I can imagine it's harder to avoid a "Lead" role if your promoted internally (Very rare people turn down promotions) but another annoyance of mine is no people skills/management skills. It not only hurts the team below that person but also can very easily burn bridges.
