Funny, then, that the mortality from, for example, breast cancer has been declining steadily for 30 years. It's decreased nearly 40% since then.https://twitter.com/Truecubbyblue15/status/981556957071990786 …

Yeah....so the RATE is what you use to measure success of treatment. The treatment isn’t responsible for the number of cases that present, obviously.

That's not how you measure mortality. Mortality looks at the total number of deaths from a disease divided by the population. It is a very "hard" number. If we were doing no better against breast cancer, then increased incidence would translate into increased mortality.

The underlying, ~ignored problem is that the *invasive* breast cancer rate has been rising over decades (not counting DCIS)

I wrote about the rising rate of invasive breast cancer in context of an anti-screening piece -https://www.forbes.com/sites/elaineschattner/2016/10/21/the-unfortunate-reality-of-a-rising-rate-of-breast-cancer/ …

so the problem -- about which we might all agree -- is that the absolute number of U.S. deaths from BC is constant (or going up, slightly)
