Worth reading if your job or life involves wanting to be persuasive, have a voice, and make things happen. I reread it often to remind myself.

75% of all Americans want to see witnesses in the impeachment trial. Over 90% of us want simple background checks for people purchasing guns. We are getting neither. The Senate is not representing the people. The term ‘civil servant’ does not apply to those who refuse to serve.

As someone who has covered many elections monitored by the UN I confirm that this is correct.

Steve Salerno and I don’t always agree but his Super Bowl analysis is spot on. Every player, coach, and armchair quarterback should read it carefully and follow his advice to the letter.

Listening to a currently-popular cover of the Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dreams.” Horrible, thin, watered down. Fired up the original from and am in bliss :) What spectacular musicians! Kudos

It shows a lack of understanding of what AI is capable of, of what job competency models are, of the usefulness of visual interviews (hint: low), etc. Hey, all you smart tech people, please just stop it. Go get laid or something. But spare us your so-called progress.

as interviewers are affecting their ability to get that information. The thought that someone thinks they understand candidate evaluation enough to build an AI for it is laughable.

Why do a bunch of engineers have any reason to believe they can deal with something like applicant evaluation? And by the way, I’ve met precious few in-person interviewers who know what they’re actually looking for. They also don’t know how their own behavior

Using AI for applications like screening job candidates seems like an extraordinarily poor choice for everyone—companies and candidates alike. Voice recognition can’t even transcribe a complete paragraph without making errors.

Just used a “memory palace” to memorize the outline for an entire presentation. It’s really amazing how quickly and effortlessly it worked. I needed about 4 rehearsals and DONE!

The "smart" dryer was made by . While it’s been a wonderful dryer, I don’t know if I’m ever going to buy anything from again if this is any indication of how they treat their customers.

(I bought a “smart” dryer several years ago for $1,000. The motherboard in it just failed … and they no longer make a replacement board. A $600 dryer would have lasted this long and probably for the next 20 years. Or I could have bought two $500 dumb dryers for the same price.)

We talk on and on and on about “smart devices.” The problem is that smart devices have many more ways of failure, and considerably more setup, support, and diagnosis to keep running properly. Sometimes simple, robust, and dependable is far better than “smart."

This is interesting: Now, I have the same concerns about the ban of straws that I do in the US (if you're not sure why that's a problem follow some folks in the disability rights community, and/or Google it), but the ban on single-use cups/bottles? Yes!

I never considered this point of view. I remember the crowds crying over Diana. I even remember crying myself when I saw Harry walking along so composed. ... and it didn’t occur to me for a second that *he* was the one under all the pressure.
