Same stats pls? Isolate the top 100, identify members of the Tribe. Better yet, expand the category to the "Invade them over there, import them over here" group.

The 2009 "Atlantic 50" list of most influential pundits is 9 years out of date and is just one famous mainstream magazine's considered opinion, but the list's demographics are a good start for understanding contemporary American discourse: https://www.unz.com/isteve/demographics-of-top-50-pundits/ …pic.twitter.com/aCjOeAF08M

Ethnically Catholic? Are those people of Irish/italian/polish ancestry?

Right. Ethnic Catholics also include lots of Catholic German-Americans, French Canadians, Hispanics, and Vietnamese, but there were virtually no Hispanics or East Asians on 2009 Atlantic 50 list of top pundits (just Yglesias at 1/4th Cuban).

Does he get double counted as he's 3/4 Jewish or counted as solely Jewish?

In my study of the demographics of the 2009 "Atlantic Monthly" list of 50 most influential pundits, @MatthewYglesia was counted as 0.25 Hispanic and 0.75 Jewish. BTW, pundit w/most complex ethnicity was @NickKristof, whose father was from medieval Armenian diaspora in Poland.

I didn't even know there was an Armenian diaspora in Poland. My Armenian former girlfriend failed me when it came to this knowledge

Medieval Polish nobles invited Armenians and Jews in to serve as their bourgeois, after Mongols had genocided Polish urbanites. Poles and Armenians seemed to get along pretty well over the centuries, so not much in history books. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armenians_in_Poland …https://kristof.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/03/05/speaking-not-as-an-armenian/ …

Even my family was a bit confused about how to describe itself. My father called himself Romanian or Armenian, his sister said she was Armenian, his brother said Polish. When they phoned us, my dad spoke to his brother in Polish, to his sister in Romanian.

How might we weigh a handful of "most influential" opinion elite against the vast number nipping at their heels...? Everything from Slate, Salon, TNR, NY, NYer, HuffPo, BuzzFeed, Gawker, etc. Gender breakdown probably mirror's STEM imbalances. https://www.theguardian.com/books/2016/jan/27/us-study-finds-publishing-is-overwhelmingly-white-and-female …pic.twitter.com/lJqVYPJVQW

For the purposes of learning the demographics of pundits, I didn't want to come up with my own list of who I think are the top pundits because that would inject my biases. I was happy to use for my purposes The Atlantic's mainstream list of who they thought were the top pundits.

Pundits have lost a lot of power. Recall 2000 election. Maureen Dowd and Friedman actually mattered and could alter a new cycle. Safire even more so, 2000 was strange - Bush , though despised. got better press than Gore. Gore became deeply unfashionable for a while.

Bush was despised less for his policies than 4 getting in Yale with Bucknell (not bad) level grades and SAT scores. Then it turns out Kerry is dumber.

‘Ethnically Catholic” is misleading. Huge difference between US Filipino and US Pole, Croat - both in IQ and punditry.

Hmm, I wonder if The TOQ 50 would look the same as the Atlantic 50. Measuring influence by "reach" skews the result toward pundits with MSM platforms, i.e. spectrum from left to GOP center. Pundits on the Right, e.g. you, have a smaller reach but, long term, deeper impact.
