It's almost as if despite all the social privileges and lucky timing in the world, even women who graduated from Stanford in 1994 aren't very good at and/or very interested in technology. @RebeccaDRobbinshttps://twitter.com/RebeccaDRobbins/status/997320059923062784 …

Rereading this piece about how women in the Stanford Class of '94 didn't benefit from the tech boom that turned so many of their male classmates into dotcom millionaires. Reminded what a perfect story idea this was. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2014/12/23/us/gender-gaps-stanford-94.html …

What’s your take on why women dominate the academy, primary schools and consumer spending but don’t start successful tech or trading companies?

Starting a robotics program at a local girls’ school sounds like the behavior of someone with hobbies. Someone who isn’t working sixty hours a week. Someone who isn’t really interested in working at a high pressure startup. Too much of a geek? Not at all. Just the wrong kind.pic.twitter.com/jsqbYLcsVn

There is data about this. Neither reading is wrong. If my job was to write articles which inform the public I’d at least make a note of that. Maybe you’re not curious enough to do that kind of work, though.pic.twitter.com/S37hpc32tF

Because by any objective measure women are inferior and men superior?

More charitably — it has to do with differences in the size of their respective standard deviations, and the lack of well rounded female talent at the right hand tail.

Will you find women who are able to hang with Bill Gates and Paul Allen intellectually? Sure. Not as many — but some? Definitely. The problem is finding women with the multiple far-right-tail traits/talents which predict mega-ambition and mega-success. One variable alone won’t do

There are very sharp women lawyers. Women have done well in law for the last 40 years. If you are a super-logical woman, why go into electrical engineering on the long shot hope of striking it rich in Silicon Valley if you find tech tedious ... when law pays very well?

Similarly, lots of the smartest women go into the life sciences. Why? One reason is because they find the life sciences more interesting than the death sciences. Not many woman ever thought "I am become Death, destroyer of worlds" was an awesome thing to say, but a lot of guys do
