Lockheed was the biggest employer in 1980s Silicon Valley, with 28,000 workers building Trident nuclear sub ICBMs. The Cold War was funded on a vast scale. Much of today's SV infrastructure of technical expertise was built up & paid for by taxpayers during Cold War.
