How much of this is due to Indian weather? Hot/humid is not good for premodern record-keeping.

India was also far behind in economic complexity, architecture etc. I suspect it's more the case of a dull, illiterate mass interspersed with a few brilliant Brahmins.

Wrong. In the 90s Toronto took in hordes of unselected Sri Lankan refugees. Their kids are now performing as good or better on standardized tests than children of rich white people (TO whites got $). http://www.tdsb.on.ca/Portals/research/docs/reports/Portrait_Census2011-12_SouthAsian_FINAL_report.pdf … http://www.tdsb.on.ca/Portals/research/docs/reports/Portrait_Census2011-12_White_FINAL_report.pdf … Scroll to pg 6.

Given equal environments I suspect potential of South Asians similar to that of whites.

Ever read some of the imperial archives on display at the national museum of Taiwan? It’s amazing stuff, reading the letters from inner workings of various Chinese dynasties. It’s like reading emails from today, it’s that relatable.

Indian philosophers were generally more interested in discovering the eternal laws behind existence, less interested in the happenings of the mundane world. Chinese ones were generally more practically minded. Confucius spends more time on ethics than metaphysics. p.1

The most metaphysical the Chinese got was with Neo-Confucianism, and that was inspired by the influx and absorption of Buddhism into Chinese consciousness.

Yes, that's correct. It still lingered around and the Neo-Confucians arose in the later Song.

On the
#Seshat chronology (nr Bellary) we have 351-449 gap (Assakas? Pallavas?) and use Vijayanagara (e.g. Geacron map) to cover what should be (?) Bahmani and Golconda Sultanates of 14th-17th. Lots of events happened, was complex, but more virtues went into display than record.pic.twitter.com/kAV3KR5Qbb

The hot monsoon climate of India is also an important consideration. Due to rapid decomposition they made bows out of Wootz steel, so imagine the problem of leaving paper archives to future generations. Chinese describe 'libraries of texts' in 1st-mill. Indian influenced SE Asia.
-
The steel bows apparently weren't very good but they were functional and could be kept in storerooms for many years.

I remember once reading someone, maybe Daniel J. Boorstin, puzzled at how it required the Greeks to invent history, when it could have been the Indians given the richness of the rest of their literature. I guess they didn't keep track of things and history got away from them.
