Baseball has finally found a left-handed thrower who is allowed to play catcher. (Baseball discriminates severely against lefthanders wanting to catch, altho nobody can agree on why. But lefthanders aren't a political identity group, so nobody cares.) http://takimag.com/article/the_forgotten_leftists_steve_sailer/print#axzz5BHqRM5nD …https://twitter.com/TonyAustin_10/status/980473694702194688 …

This is absolutely amazing. This is my buddy’s son up to bat but please watch the catcher. Let’s make this guy known! 👏👏 pic.twitter.com/M6goz7VYa1

Majority (what %?) of batters are right-handed, so possible advantage in throwing to second if you don't have to move slightly to not hit batter? Interesting stat would be % of stolen base attempts caught w/righties at bat vs lefties. Might be a difference there?

other commenter here pointed out that leftie potential catchers get pushed elsewhere (pitching or first base, presumably)

Two one armed players made the majors. One was a pitcher, Jim Abott. The other was an outfielder, Pete (can’t recall his last name). The outfielder even hit a few homers.

Pete Gray. Played one season (1945) with the St. Louis Browns.

It's not discrimination - it's that left-handers who are good enough at throwing to play catcher automatically get converted to pitching because a decent left handed pitcher is more valuable than all but the best catchers

Harder to pick off runners at 2nd or 3rd as a lefty generally. They have an advantage at 1st though.

I always thought it was because there are more right handed batters which made it easier to throw to second base to pick off potential base stealer.
